1st Ryan Vogelsong, now Marco Scutaro

Ok this is getting unfair. I just faced the reality of losing a two time World Series champion who will be signing with another club this off-season, and now we get the news that Marco Scutaro has been designated for assignment.

This isn't like a typical DFA. Scutaro seems to have already chosen to rehab with the Giants, so if by some miracle he gets healthy, he could re-sign with the club at that point.

Usually with a DFA, teams can pick a player off of waivers.

So now I have to write my Thank you Marco post much sooner than anticipated.

--------

Dear Marco Scutaro,

You really were the "Blockbuster" you were coined to be by your teammates in 2012. This team would not have made it through the post-season without your consistency and your incredible bat.  But it was more than that. You brought a leadership both on and off the field that we had never seen before. Hunter Pence is obviously more vocal and Buster Posey might be the best bat in a generation, but you were the glue to that lineup and that locker room.  You were the one that brought the team together from July on. You were the one that got our hitters to be more patient and take advantage of pitcher's mistakes. Your approach at the plate was a joy to watch with your discipline in the strike zone and your ability to extend at bats to find your pitch. It was your double vs the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS that won that series. And it was your opposite field single in the 10th inning of Game 4 of the World Series that literally won the Championship for San Francisco.

I hope you are able to finally get healthy so that you can play again. Even if it's just in the backyard with your family. We will all miss that perfect approach at the plate.

Even if this is the final chapter of your baseball career, what a journey from starring in the documentary "A Player to be Named Later" to being the "Blockbuster."  Now that's a Hollywood script.
